چکیده

Using wetlands as sink of nutrients, phosphorus in particular, is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to conventional wastewater treatment technology. In this paper, we brie y review the mechanism of phosphorus retention in wetlands, as well as previous modeling e orts. A Bayesian method is then proposed for estimating the long-term phosphorus accretion rate in wetlands through a piecewise linear model of out ow phosphorus concentration and phosphorus mass loading rate. The Bayesian approach was used for its simplicity in computation and its ability to accurately represent uncertainty. Applied to an Everglades wetland, the Bayesian method not only produced the probability distribution of the long-term phosphorus accretion rate, but also generated a relationship of acceptable level of \risk" and optimal phosphorus mass loading rate for the proposed constructed wetlands in south Florida. The latter is a useful representation of uncertainty which is of interest to decision makers.

Estimating ecological thresholds for phosphorus in the Everglades.

The Florida Everglades, a wetland of international importance, has been undergoing a significant shift in its native flora and fauna due to excessive total phosphorus (TP) loadings (an average of 147 t per annum from 1995to 2004) and an elevated mean TP concentration (69 microg L(-1) of TP in 2004) from agricultural runoff and Lake Okeechobee outflow despite the use of 16000 ha of stormwater tr...

Modeling Phosphorus Trapping in Wetlands Using Nonparametric Bayesian Regression

Phosphorus-enriched agricultural runo from the Everglades Agriculture Area is believed to have caused ecological changes in the northern part of the Everglades wetlands. A number of e orts have been made to assess the e ectiveness of using constructed wetlands as a means of phosphorus removal from the agricultural runo . The objective of this study is to develop a predictive model for the total...

Manures behave similar to superphosphate in phosphorus accumulation in long-term field soils

Repeated application of manures to agricultural soils could cause the accumulation of phosphorus (P) in soils. However, it is unclear if manure P can behave similar to P in soluble fertilizers in accumulation Olsen-P (0.5 mol L-1 NaHCO3 at pH 8.5) in soils. A long-term wheat-maize rotation experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of repeated application of manures on P accumulation i...

Risk Analysis of Operating Room Using the Fuzzy Bayesian Network Model

To enhance Patient’s safety, we need effective methods for risk management. This work aims to propose an integrated approach to risk management for a hospital system. To improve patient’s safety, we should develop flexible methods where different aspects of risk and type of information are taken into consideration. This paper proposes a fuzzy Bayesian network to model and analyze risk in the op...
